Weekend Beauty Rehab

mudmaskSo when you have a long weekend to yourself and you deny the call ins to work, this is the perfect time to go into beauty rehab. I shed all my make up, whip up my homemade hair treatment and put on my favorite mud mask. Of course I stay in the house and try not to scare anybody and yet I’m letting you all in….the irony. But this is what I am here for, to share the beauty secrets and tips that have shown me some great results. So the point for weekend rehab is to rejuvenate my hair and skin. The stress of the week can really start to show on your skin and of course you want to keep up with your luxurious locks. So let’s get into the steps, I have posts from before on how I make my hair conditioner if you haven’t already read it I definitely recommend trying it out for any hair type if you want added moisture, shine and softness.

Beauty rehab for the face: This step is actually really simple, I use my makeup remover wipes to take off the majority of the makeup from the day. I usually use two wipes because I have a lot going on. After that I get in the shower and let the steam from the hot water open up my pores before using a face cleanser. For my rehab I’m going to use an exfoliation scrub, I use the scrub at once a week to help remove the dead skin cells and any other build up. This sets you up for a good base before putting on your mud mask. The mud mask surges the pores and clears the complexion for a refreshed look. Now the thing is with these mud mask is that they work deep in your pores so after you rinse it off your skin is really dried up, so I don’t recommend using this everyday. I put this on and sit around with it for about an hour or however long it takes for all the flakes to start to leave a trail. After I rinse off the mask and rub an ice-cube over my face to close my pores, I follow-up with a moisturizer. You get better results when you open your pores before you wash and close your pores after you rinse.

Beauty rehab for the hair: Usually I start my hair rehab before I start the steps for my face because my hair rehab is a two-day process. I know who has time to sit around for two days dealing with hair? Well this girl does on very few occasions, but I promise full, shiny hair with lots of body in the end. Step number one is I whip up my magic potion of hair conditioner. I part my hair into sections to really focus on my ends and work up to my roots really saturating my hair. I usually throw on a shower cap and a plastic bag just to hold in the heat. I also put on a hair wrap around my edges, I don’t get relaxers so always tie down my edges from start to finish to smooth them out. At this point I’m sitting around with a plastic bag and green face watching movies or blogging of course. After an hour or more I hop in the shower rinse off my face and rinse my hair. You will learn to get really thorough with your hair rinse when you conditioner includes eggs. After I come out my hair, add my moisture and oil to seal it and separate into sections and braid it up. I put back on my hair wrap and go and sit under the hair dryer for….well I’m not sure how long I fell asleep and woke up watching Turbo. So besides that I get from under the hair dryer and put on my silk bonnet and head to bed. The next morning my hair is completely dry and I blow dry each section. This method has made my hair more manageable and silkier with less flat ironing time. Try to use as little product as possible, it will help to keep your hair from looking weighed down and flat.

After these steps pick out an outfit for work on Monday and some killer heels to match because girl you are fabulous. Whip your hair like you’re in a granier frutis commercial and smile a big smile to match your radiant skin. This weekend rehab is time to rejuvenate and get it together after a long week. Some wine and chocolate covered strawberries are also nice to have to add that spa at home feel. Other than that you will be a fully charged diva again after this. Pull out your fluffy slippers and prepare to get re-Fabulous all on your dime with Elle Woods.
